USW Local 979 and Cleveland-Cliffs employees came together to donate 18,842 total pounds of food during our 2025 annual Souper Bowl campaign. Cash donations alone, $5,184 was raised through the online donations page.  The food bank will be able to turn that into 15,552 meals that will serve our neighbors in need in the Greater Cleveland area.

On June 3rd, 2024, USW Local 979 Member Brother Jared Wood lost his son Julian Myles Wood (3 yrs old) to an unprovoked act of violence. 

Julian's parents organized this 5K to honor his memory, celebrate his life, and give back in his name.

This year’s COAT DRIVE collected over 80 BRAND NEW jackets to share with the children at the BOYS & GIRLS CLUB in Slavic Village. Members of the Local 979 Next Gen Committee delivered the coats in gift bags to the Boys & Girls Club on the day of their Christmas Party.

Quarter 2 Profit Sharing 2024

Q2 2024 Profit Sharing is $0.51 per hour with a maximum of 48 eligible hours per week and will be paid on or before August 18th.

For example:

An Employee who works 40 hrs. a week:

13 weeks x 40 hrs. = 520 hrs./quarter 520 hrs. x $0.51/hr = $265.20

An Employee who works 48 hrs. a week:

13 weeks x 48 hrs. = 624 hrs./quarter 624 hrs. x $0.51/hr = $318.24

Quarter 1 Profit Sharing 2024

Q1 2024 Profit Sharing is $0.99 per hour with a maximum of 48 eligible hours per week and will be paid on or before May 15th. 2024

For Example:

40 Hours Worked Per Week

13 weeks x 40 hrs. = 520 hrs/quarter 520hrs x .99/hr = $514.80

48 Hours Worked Per Week

13 weeks x 48hrs = 624 hrs/quarter 624 hrs. x $0.99/hr=$617.76

For the 4th Quarter of 2023, the Profit Sharing Payout will be $0.22 per eligible hour up to 48 hours per week.

For example, a member who worked 40 hours every week for 13 weeks will receive $0.22 x 520 hours ( 40 hours per week x 13 weeks) = $1114.40; a member who worked 48 hours every week for 13 weeks will receive $0.22 x 624 hours (48 hours per week x 13 weeks) = $137.28
